The Ohio State football program will be playing in the best opening weekend game in college football this season. They will be taking on Notre Dame. A lot has already been talked about in this matchup, including a lot of smack talk by Marcus Freeman.

Ohio State is going to be favored in that game and they already are. I would suspect that the line would only continue to go up as the gametime approaches. But the Buckeyes know they won’t have an easy time beating the Fighting Irish. In fact, they know it’s going to be very difficult.

If the Ohio State football team were to loseto Notre Dame though, that wouldn’t spell the end of their College Football Playoff hopes. As long as the Buckeyes would win the rest of their games, they should still have enough on their resume to deserve a CFP spot

Obviously, it would be ideal if this didn’t end up happening anyway. The Buckeyes have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way, although the top of the Big Ten could still give them some issues. But an opening weekend loss wouldn’t kill their hopes of winning a national title.

Do I think Ohio State will lose to Notre Dame? I do not. But I’m still not ready to say that this will be a blowout or anything. The Buckeyes’ defense hasn’t proved anything yet. They were not good the last two years, so it’s not a stretch to say that they would struggle against a good Notre Dame team.

The goal every year for the Ohio State football program is to win every game on their schedule. This team certainly has the talent to do just that, but time will tell if the defense is up to snuff in the opener.
