The Ohio State football program doesn’t have many people inside of it who talk trash. Ryan Day certainly doesn’t and most of the players don’t either. They have tried to just keep their heads down and play the best football that they can. Others talk trash about the program though.

Over the past couple of years, there were several instances where Jim Harbaugh and TTUN were throwing shade at the Buckeyes. The entire Ohio State football program had two years’ worth of motivation heading into the final game of the season and still lost in embarrassing fashion.

It seems that the team, or the coaching staff, didn’t have that killer mindset. They didn’t make TTUN pay for all of the smack that they had been talking. Instead, they got their brains beat in and were no longer able to play in the College Football Playoff.

Marcus Freeman has been throwing a lot of shade Ohio State’s way in the last few months. Based on what we saw from the Buckeyes at the end of last year, the Buckeyes might not be able to shut him up. Unless the assistant coaches brought in a new mentality, that trash talk should scare Ohio State fans.

Am I saying that the Buckeyes are going to lose the opener to Notre Dame? No. But what I am saying is that fans shouldn’t be shocked if they do. That last regular-season game really left a bad taste in my mouth in terms of the mentality of the team. I thought they’d be mentally stronger than that.

I’m sure that Ryan Day and his staff will be working hard to erase that bad taste from losing to TTUN. This team needs to be mentally stronger if they want to win a national championship.
