The Ohio State baseball program relieved previous head coach Greg Beals three weeks ago after he had coached the program for 11 years. Beals had been one of the three coaches that the program had had since 1976. He did pretty well for the Buckeyes too.

Since he’s been gone, Gene Smith has been looking for a replacement for him. With the College World Series still going, Smith has had to wait a little longer to make sure he found the right guy. Now, he thinks he’s found that next guy to lead the program.

Bill Mosiello is the new head coach for the baseball Buckeyes. Mosiello was an assistant with TCU since 2013. He has over 20 years of coaching experience and has been around college baseball players for a long time. In fact, he’s coached around 80 future major league players.

Mosiello has also coached at the minor league level too. It seems that Smith gets the best of both worlds with this hire. Mosiello finally gets his chance to lead a college program. It will be an interesting season next year to see how he does in his first try as a head coach.

Again, I’m not the foremost expert on the Ohio State baseball program. What I do know is that they should be better next year with a new voice that can bring a different perspective to some of these guys. That should help them have a better record than they did this year.

Ohio State has enough resources that they should make the NCAA Tournament more often than they have. This is the first step to getting to that point.
