The Ohio State football team wasn’t expecting to have Luke Wypler start at center last season. He was thrust into that role after Harry Miller got hurt and then had mental health troubles that ultimately forced him to retire from the game. All of a sudden, Wypler was the leader of the offensive line.

All things considered, Wypler did a pretty decent job. He got a whole year of experience under his belt and learned a lot. Was he great against TTUN? No, but no one on the offensive line was. That was really the only game Wypler got pushed around in an alarming way.

Now, this is Wypler’s offensive line to lead. No one is taking his job at center and he can just focus on getting better. He also has a new offensive line coach to help him improve. With both of those factors in hand, he should have a much better year in 2022.

It also helps Wypler that he has another year with the same quarterback and running back behind him in the backfield. That chemistry will allow Wypler to make fewer mistakes. He’s not as worried about making those mistakes either because this is now second nature to him.

I’m really interested to see the mentality that he comes into that first game against Notre Dame with. I want to see if he comes out mean and nasty. Ohio State is going to try to run the ball down Notre Dame’s throat early, so Wypler needs to come out with that mentality.

Wypler should have a good year in 2022. He’s probably the third-best player on this offensive line and is still pretty good. If everyone up front plays to their potential, this could be a really scary unit for other teams to face.
