The Ohio State football program is the closes thing that the North has to an SEC program. They win more games than anyone else in the area and put more players into the NFL than anyone else in the area. They are the gold standard of non-SEC competition.

But anyone around the Ohio State football program would tell you that they aren’t looking to just be the best program in the North. They want to be the best program in the country period. 2020 almost saw them win a national championship. 2019 is still the best Buckeye team I’ve ever seen.

What they need to do in order to get to that next level and be national champions has to do with nailing the little things during the biggest moments. Not letting your man beat you off the snap up front. Not letting your focus wane on a snap count. All these little things add up.

Alabama and Georgia mastered the little things the last couple of seasons. That’s why they ended up on top. I don’t necessarily believe that either one of these programs is significantly more talented than what the Buckeyes have, they just have mastered the art of focusing.

That focus is what Ryan Day and his staff is working to instill into the players. Ohio State has all of the talent in the world. All of the players are top-notch. But there is a difference between the level Alabama and Ohio State are at right now, even though it’s not a big difference.

Every program strives to get to the top every year. Ohio State is one of the few programs that actually have a real shot to win a national title every year. It’s a chase that they won’t ever stop.
