Ohio State basketball: Buckeyes land another transfer guard
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team has been trying to find new players through the transfer portal to add to their roster. They already added Tanner Holden to the roster a few weeks ago. They’ve been searching for another guard to add to compliment him since they don’t really have any experienced guards.
We told you yesterday that the Buckeyes missed out on Nijel Pack because of an expensive NIL deal that he was able to get from Miami. Pack wasn’t the only guard that Chris Holtmann had his eyes on. He was able to grab another guard today who he had been recruiting.
Sean McNeil, a transfer from West Virginia, announced that he would be attending Ohio State. McNeil is a good two-guard that has some shooting skills. He shot 37% from three last season and averaged 12.2 points per game while playing for the Mountaineers.
McNeil gives the Buckeyes something they have been searching for for a while now; a true threat as an outside shooter. He took almost 5 three-pointers a game last season, which means he is a volume shooter. That’s something that can help spread defenses out.
Holtmann did a good job grabbing this guy. Defense is a bit of a concern with McNeil, but at least he can make those deep shots. Unlike Justin Ahrens, McNeil will also attempt to take some two-point shots too. He’s not afraid to take guys off the dribble and get to the paint.
The Ohio State basketball team is in desperate need of some veterans. McNeil will be a senior this season, so he can provide some leadership for the Buckeyes. This is a win for the Buckeye basketball program in almost every sense. McNeil is someone who will be a valuable piece.
I’m very interested to see how these new transfers play with the incoming freshman class.
