The Ohio State basketball team was one of the final teams that Kansas State transfer Nijel Pack was considering. He had averaged almost 17 points per game last season as a member of the Wildcats. He even visited Columbus last week. Ultimately, he decided on somewhere else.

Pack decided to commit to the University of Miami. He chose them over the Buckeyes, as well as some other schools. Why he decided to commit to Miami is what is so interesting. The world of NIL is getting bigger and bigger with each growing moment as evidenced by this commitment.

Pack is getting a two-year $800,000 NIL deal to go to Miami. Not only is he getting that large amount of money, but he is also getting a car. Pack was clearly swayed by all of the extra things that Miami was willing to offer that Ohio State and some other programs were not.

Chris Holtmann and the rest of the Ohio State basketball program weren’t willing to put a package together like that, so Pack decided to go elsewhere. I can’t really blame him for wanting something like that, especially now that it’s legal for boosters to offer something like this.

The world of NIL makes recruiting very difficult. That’s true for incoming freshmen recruits and anyone that teams are trying to get in the transfer portal. The Buckeyes are going to have to learn this and adjust, especially within the basketball program.

Holtmann likes to use the portal to fill out his roster, so this is something he is going to have to consider moving forward. He needs someone to help him put together some NIL deals if he wants to land some of the bigger transfer recruits.

Next. Noah Potter enters transfer portal. dark

We’ll see if Holtmann learns to keep up with the new rules or not.
