Recruiting is what keeps college football programs competing at the highest level. Bad recruiting leads to losses while great recruiting leads to championships. The Ohio State football program knows that firsthand and has been near the top of the recruiting rankings for many years.

This year is no exception. The Buckeyes have been creeping up the recruiting rankings the past few weeks. While we are still early on in this 2023 recruiting cycle, the Buckeyes are currently fourth in the rankings. They lie only behind Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Arkansas.

Both Texas Tech and Arkansas will likely fall out of the top ten by the time the cycle is over in December. But for now, the Buckeyes sit at fourth. They are actually less than a point away from overtaking Arkansas’ spot at third in the rankings. That’s how close they are.

Right now, the Buckeyes’ 2023 class sits at 9 commits. They have seven four-star commits and two three-star commits. They have yet to secure a commitment from a five-star prospect, but that will be coming soon. Ohio State should only continue to rise through these rankings.

It’s hard to predict where they will ultimately finish because of how early in the cycle we still are in. Prospects still have to take official visits on game days and visit some more campuses before making final decisions. Of course, nothing is official until that National Letter of Intent is signed.

We’ll see what other studs the Ohio State football program can bring in. The summer is peak recruiting season, so there is sure to be a flurry of commitments during that time period. Ohio State will be hosting plenty more visits as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucks got a commitment or two before the end of the month.
