Ohio State basketball could lose another key player
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team is already preparing to lose its two best players from this past season to the NBA. They lost Justin Ahrens to the transfer portal as well, although that isn’t a huge loss. Losing Kyle Young is a big loss though, and the Buckeyes might lose another player.
That’s because Justice Sueing has announced that he is returning to play college basketball but declined to say with whom. He only played in two games this past season before missing the rest with an abdomen injury. He’s also had foot injuries in the past as well.
It’s very odd that Sueing would announce he’s going to play college basketball still without naming who he will be with. The Buckeyes still have a chance to bring him back because he has not officially entered the portal, but it’s just a weird situation.
If Sueing did end up leaving the Ohio State basketball program, it would be a significant loss. It’s not a big loss on the offensive side of the court, but on the defensive side. His ability to switch on defense is a valuable skill because he can guard almost any position on the floor.
Losing Sueing would mean that the Buckeyes would have almost no experience returning next season. It is already likely that the incoming freshman class is going to have to do most of the heavy lifting. Chris Holtmann better hope those guys are up to the challenge.
Of course, Ohio State isn’t done working the transfer portal themselves. They have already landed Tanner Holden from Wright State. They’re looking into bringing on a Big Ten foe too, as well as a number of other players they have shown interest in.
Losing Sueing would be less than ideal for this team and it would put even more pressure on Holtmann as next season rolls around.
