Heading into Spring, the Ohio State football team had some questions they had to answer at a lot of positions. Personnel decisions are going to have to be made before Fall and Spring practice helps that out a little bit. It seems that personnel issues in the secondary are getting sorted out.

Lejond Cavzos entered the transfer portal yesterday. He was a corner that was never able to stay healthy and wasn’t going to see the field this upcoming season. He wants to go somewhere else where he can get some snaps and play more, which is completely fair.

Bryson Shaw has also entered the transfer portal. Shaw was thrust into the starting safety spot last season once Josh Proctor went down and struggled mightily. Quite frankly, he just wasn’t good enough. Other safeties were going to pass him up this year, so him moving on isn’t surprising.

These two moves free up the secondary. It gives some other fringe guys a chance to make an impression to earn some playing time with less competition around them. I’m not sure how much either of these moves really affects the final roster decision that will be made in the secondary though.

Obviously, we wish nothing but the best for both of these guys. They are still Buckeyes for life, it just didn’t work out here like either of these guys had hoped that it would. Both will have more opportunities to get on the field elsewhere and showcase their skills.

It’s also smart to enter the portal now so that they can find their new school before the Fall rolls around. They want to make sure they get in somewhere for full offseason activities too. The Ohio State football program will move on with the guys that they have.
