Ohio State Football: Why WR recruiting will push to a whole new level
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has a reputation as one of the premier recruiting teams in the country. They can recruit nationwide and target any kind of recruit that they want. There’s no one off-limits. That has been especially true when it comes to the receiver position.
Ohio State’s receiver room is ridiculous every single year because of Brian Hartline‘s great recruiting efforts. His ability to bring talented guys into the program every year is astounding. Not just that, but almost all of these guys contribute at some point as well.
Recruiting wide receivers is about to jump up a whole new level though. Hartline will have three receivers that he brought into Ohio State have a chance to be a first-round pick this April. Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jameson Williams all have a shot to be first-rounders.
Obviously, Williams transferred to Alabama this past season. He is also the least likely to be a first-rounder after tearing his ACL in the National Championship Game. He was also fourth on Ohio State’s depth chart after the Spring game last season. That’s how good the receiver room was.
Wilson and Olave are pretty much locks to go in the first round. This will be the first time that Hartline has had multiple receivers drafted in the first round of the same draft. That type of development opens up a whole new world of recruiting for this team.
Hartline and the Ohio State football program have an opportunity to grab any receiver recruit they want now. They already are projected to grab one five-star receiver in the 2023 class. I would expect more talent at receiver to commit to the program later this Summer.
The receivers this year will once again be spectacular and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be a first-round pick next season. The Buckeyes just keep churning them out!
