It seems as though the Ohio State football team has finally made up its mind as to where Cade Stover is going to play. In this morning’s practice, Stover was practicing with the tight ends. He did not take any reps at linebacker, which is where he finished last season.

Stover had vocalized his desire to move to linebacker permanently. But with no answer at tight end now that Jeremy Ruckert is gone, that leaves Stover as the only one who has taken a reasonable amount of snaps at tight end on the roster.

It seems that Ryan Day has decided that Stover is the best option at tight end right now. Speaking to reporters at the end of practice, he mentioned that Stover is likely to remain at tight end.

This makes the most sense for the offense. Linebacker has suddenly become a position with increased competition, so it makes sense for Stover to play a position that the team needs the most help in. That position is clearly tight end. Stover would become the number one passing option at tight end.

The Buckeyes still have some time to decide what to do with him. Day also mentioned that it would still be up to Stover to decide what position he wants to play. Maybe Stover saw that the best opportunity for playing time was going to be at tight end.

Stover is an excellent blocker and has decent hands. If he stays at tight end, he will finally get a chance to show his whole arsenal as a player. That’s probably what appeals to Stover the most.
