The Ohio State football team is looking to turn their defense around from poor showings in 2020 and 2021. Jim Knowles likes what he has to work with.

It’s early into Spring practice, but there are still some good things coming out from the Ohio State football team. It seems like we might know who the starters are on the offensive line, some players who can play together, and that the defense has a lot of talent.

That last part is something Jim Knowles truly believes in. Speaking to the media, he told reporters that he really likes the talent this team has on defense. That echoes something that Ohio State football fans have been saying for the past few years. It’s not a talent issue, it’s been a coaching issue.

Knowles knows that he has to get things turned around pretty quickly. Everyone is antsy to see what he can do with this defense because the offense is championship-caliber right now. The defense just has to not suck for this team to make the College Football Playoff.

The Ohio State football team needs to find the right combination on defense

What Knowles really needs to do is find the right combination of players to play on defense. There will obviously be positions where players get rotated in and out, most notably on the defensive line. But the back seven needs to be figured out as well.

Knowles won’t get a true sense of what he has until the Fall rolls around. The Spring Game will help, but it won’t offer up any definitive answers as to who the best players are on defense because there won’t be any tackling. It’ll be hard to determine which players fit best when you’re not going full speed.

It’s only been a couple of days, but these positive reports out of the Woody should be music to Buckeye fans’ ears.
