Ohio State Football: Three recruits who could see immediate playing time
By Ryan Stano
The Buckeyes ended up losing Jeremy Ruckert to the NFL Draft. He was the only tight end that caught significant passes last season. Stover might make a permanent move to linebacker. So where does that leave the tight end room in terms of players?
Enter Bennett Christian. He is a three-star recruit from Georgia. While he’s not the five-star prospect the other two players on this list are, he has an o[em opportunity to earn playing time right away because of the state of the tight end room.
Perhaps the tight end that ends up getting the most playing time next year is Gee Scott Jr., who converted from wide receiver last year. He’s the only returning guy that has seen the field unless they do decide to keep Stover at tight end, which I think is the right move.
If they keep Stover as a linebacker, Christian has an opportunity for a lot of playing time. He’s already a really good blocker in the run game. If he is able to polish up his route-running, he could be in line for significant snaps. Even if he doesn’t do that, he’ll probably see the field a bunch because the tight end doesn’t get many balls thrown their way anyway.
Christian is a raw prospect that needs some time to develop. Even so, he’s got enough skill to possibly steal the starting tight end job with a really good Spring and Fall. My guess is that he’ll rotate in with Scott Jr., but only time will tell.
All three of these recruits have bright futures ahead of them. They all should get plenty of playing time in their Ohio State football careers.
