This past season was a season that helped us learn a lot about the state of the Ohio State football program. It helped us learn that Ryan Day isn’t satisfied with just a top-6 finish in the country. He is only satisfied by winning it all, and that’s the way it should be.
We also learned that some players were trying to do a little too much at times. C.J. Stroud was trying to do too much against Oregon, and it ended up hurting the team. Some did too little, like the defensive line against TTUN. That also cost them a loss.
The biggest thing we learned from 2021 is that everyone just needs to do their job. No more, no less. Stroud learned that after the Oregon loss. He ended up with a spectacular season that culminated in a Bowl-record amount of passing yards in the Rose Bowl.
Day completely changed his defensive staff because they weren’t doing their jobs. Now he has a staff in place that he believes will change that effort. This team has an enormous amount of talent on it. If everyone just does their job on the field, there are zero reasons why this team can’t make the CFP in 2022.
The work to make the Playoff starts now. Players can do offseason workouts to improve their bodies. Coaches can meet and talk about schemes and how they are going to run the team. Everyone can do a little something to get better in anticipation of next year.
With most of the offense coming back and a brand new defensive staff, I have high hopes for this team next season. I truly believe that this team has the talent to compete for a national championship. If everyone just does their job, that’s exactly what they will do.
