The Ohio State football team lost the highest recruit they’ve had in program history when Quinn Ewers decided to enter the transfer portal. Apparently, this caught Ryan Day off guard. How it caught the head coach of the program off guard is beyond me.

Regardless, Ewers is gone and likely headed to somewhere in Texas. He was close with a few 2022 recruits who have committed to Ohio State, including four-star receiver from Texas Caleb Burton. Are the Buckeyes risking losing him too?

Burton seems firmly committed to the Ohio State football program right now. He seems to be more interested in winning games and getting coached by Brian Hartline than following Ewers. Even if Ohio State did lose him, the wide receiver room is still stacked without him.

Another recruit to watch in that class is cornerback Terrance Brooks, who is also from Texas. The four-star recruit is also pretty close to Ewers. Again, he seems pretty locked into the program as well. The Buckeyes shouldn’t lose him either, although there is still time.

The problem with this scenario is that there is still time for all of these recruits to leave with Ewers if they want to. The early signing period is very soon, but these kids could decide to wait until February to make up their minds. That would make the Buckeyes sweat.

If I had to guess, I would say that the recruits who are committed right now will stay committed. Ohio State shouldn’t lose any guys from this recruiting class due to Ewers leaving. If these recruits want to win and want to make it to the NFL, Ohio State is the place to be.

Ryan Day has had it rough recently. Hopefully, he can get his team focused on the Rose Bowl and have 2021 end on a high note.
