Quinn Ewers was the number one recruit in the country a year ago. He was supposed to be the number one recruit for this upcoming class but enrolled early to take advantage of NIL rules so he could make money. In doing so, he hardly played this year.

Ewers is the best recruit in the history of the Ohio State football program. They definitely want to hold on to him. So why would he possibly leave Columbus? Lack of playing time. Despite making six figures with that NIL deal, he isn’t seeing the field.

With C.J. Stroud likely being a Heisman finalist this season, Ewers will have to wait at least one more year to start at Ohio State. Stroud wouldn’t be able to leave until 2022 at the earliest, and even then he could come back for another two years if he so chose.

Ewers redshirted this past season, so he saved a year of eligibility. If he wants to go somewhere to compete for the job right away, he might look elsewhere. It wouldn’t make sense for Ryan Day to sit Stroud after the type of year he just had as a redshirt freshman.

This would be the worst-case scenario for the Buckeyes. Ideally, they would keep Ewers and have him start once Stroud leaves. Hopefully, Day can convince Ewers that is in his best interest to stay one more year before he gets that starting job.

The final player on this list is someone who got hurt and wasn’t able to showcase his full ability this year.
