Ohio State Football betting on potential in Avery Henry
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team landed another recruit today, marking the second day in a row in which they grabbed a prospect. This time, it was an offensive lineman from the class of 2022. That prospect is three-star tackle Avery Henry out of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Henry was offered a scholarship just 48 hours ago and already decided to accept it. He clearly wants to stay in his home state and go to one of the best college programs in the country. He didn’t need to spend too much time mulling it over with his family.
As far as how good he is, that remains to be seen. Henry stands at 6’6 and 305 pounds. He’s lost some weight recently and is in much better shape than he was last year. That’s part of why Greg Studrawa decided to offer Henry and bring him into the program.
Based on the film I’ve been able to find of the kid, he looks very raw. That raw talent was enough to get him offered and is something the Ohio State football program is banking on. They think that with the right coaching, he can become a useful player up front.
Henry is going to have to work very hard to crack the offensive line rotation. The Buckeyes have some really strong players there right now and have some good talent coming in as well. He’s going to have to take that raw talent and really work hard at getting better at the finer things.
One of the biggest things he has to do is get lower. He stands up a little too much, which is understandable for a man his size. But because he stands up too much, he loses leverage easier. That’s not something you want to do as a tackle.
We’ll see what Ryan Day and company can do with him once he reaches campus. He has a chance to still contribute with the right coaching.
