Ohio State Football: Week 2 will define OSU’s season
By Ryan Stano
The toughest game on the Ohio State football team’s schedule is this week when they take on Oregon. It also happens to be just the second game of the season. That puts a lot of pressure on the Buckeyes to go out and perform their best in the biggest game they will play in the regular season.
C.J. Stroud will have to grow up quickly if the Buckeyes want to win this game. Winning this game will keep Ohio State a favorite for making the College Football Playoff yet again. Losing this game means they have absolutely no margin for error the rest of the season.
In a nutshell, this game will define the season that Ohio State has moving forward. A win could propel them emotionally to another level and keep them destroying everyone else they play. A win could give them the validation that they need to know they are one of the best teams in the country.
The good news is for the Buckeyes is that Oregon didn’t look very good in their Week 1 matchup against Fresno State. They only won by 7 and the game was very much in doubt until the end. It’s possible they were looking ahead, but good teams don’t look ahead.
Even worse for Oregon is that they may have lost their best player in Kayvon Thibodeaux to a sprained ankle. Mario Cristobal has said that he is day-to-day right now with that injury. That shouldn’t inspire a lot of confidence for Ducks fans that he’s going to play.
The Ohio State football team is dealing with injury concerns of their own. They will also play a highly motivated Oregon team that knows they have to win this game. An Oregon loss essentially eliminates them from CFP contention unless they get some major help.
This will be a great game to watch and an even better game to be at. I’ll be there myself and will try to Tweet out things about the game best I can, depending on the spotty Wifi.
