Ohio State Football: 5 winners and 2 losers from OSU vs. Minnesota
By Alex Austin
The freshman quarterback may have had a rocky start, but this is still a win for the young man
There have been a lot of takes about C.J. Stroud and his first start. Sure, he has some things to work on, especially after his rocky start. He was not Justin Fields (which I think is a huge disservice from Buckeye Nation, that fans are expecting there to be no drop-off between Stroud and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time for Ohio State) but he showed plenty of promise.
Stroud did a great job not giving up in the second half. He kept throwing the ball and making the right decisions. It helped that his wide receivers were wide open and made incredible plays, but Stroud did what he needed to do.
He didn’t need to throw through tight coverage in the second half, he just needed to hit his wide-open wide receivers, which he did. He didn’t need to carry the team on his back, just to allow his teammates the opportunities to make plays, which he did.
Stroud only needed to do his job and watch the rest of the Ohio State offense take the game over. Yes, Stroud has things to work on before the next game, but he got the win in his first-ever college football start. Congratulations young man.
The next winner is a freshman running back that made his case to get more carries.
