Ohio State Football: Quinn Ewers could play for OSU this season
By Ryan Stano
In a shocking turn of events, the highest-rated recruit in Ohio State football history could enroll a year early and play in 2021.
We have talked endlessly about the quarterback battle that will ensue in Fall camp. The fight between C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord, and Jack Miller was going to be a big focus of preseason practice. That battle may have just gotten even juicier.
According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, the top player in the class of 2022, quarterback Quinn Ewers, is strongly considering skipping his senior year of high school and enrolling in Ohio State this Fall. He would then be eligible to play in the 2021 season.
Apparently, Ewers wants to be able to get some NIL money. In Texas, high school athletes are not able to do that yet. Because of that, Ewers reportedly wants to make the jump to Ohio State early and get some of that benefit. He would then fight with the other three guys for the starting job.
This is truly shocking. Ewers would have to make this decision very soon, as Fall camp starts August 3rd. He also needs to enroll in school and classes. He only has one high school class that he needs to finish to graduate and he apparently can do that online.
If Ewers does enroll early, he would immediately become the favorite to win the starting job. In fact, it would be more shocking if he didn’t win the job. He is a transcendent talent. The other three quarterbacks aren’t better than him, even if two of them have experience in the offense already.
Ewers coming in this year and winning the job would mean that the other three guys would immediately transfer. It would suck to lose three talented guys at the most important position, but it would probably be for the best. Ewers would start for the next three years.
We will certainly keep you updated if any other news on this comes down. This would be huge for the Buckeyes if it happened!
