It seems that most Ohio State football fans have already conceded that the starting quarterback job will go to C.J. Stroud, but they shouldn’t forget about Kyle McCord.

The quarterback battle at the Ohio State football program is one of the most intriguing position battles in the country. This is the first time since Dwayne Haskins took over at quarterback that there has been a true QB battle at Ohio State.

It seems that C.J. Stroud has been anointed the started by most Ohio State football fans. I understand why people have done that based on the reports that have come out of Spring camp. It makes sense that he is the presumptive starter before Fall camp starts.

That doesn’t mean that the position battle is over though. People shouldn’t forget about freshman Kyle McCord. McCord really showed off his immense talent in the Spring Game. I thought even before that game that he was the most talented of the three QB’s, but that game confirmed it.

McCord has the best pure arm talent of everyone in this battle. He can make all of the throws and seems to already have a good sense in the pocket. It seems like it’s between McCord and Stroud for this starting position and it seems like Jack Miller is out.

Stroud very well could end up winning the job in Fall practice anyway. He is definitely the favorite right now because he has a year under his belt in terms of experience in the offense. But that doesn’t mean that McCord can’t overwhelm the coaches with his pure talent.

This position battle will determine how things go next year in the quarterback room because Quinn Ewers comes to campus. It’s going to be very interesting how things change next season, if at all, once he enters into the equation.
