The Ohio State football team desperately needs someone to step up in the secondary. Can Cam Brown come back from an Achilles injury to help?

Cam Brown was expected to be a big part of the secondary for the Ohio State football team last year. He was supposed to be one of the three corners that got regular snaps. Unfortunately, his season ended prematurely after suffering an Achilles injury just two games into the season.

Brown should be fully recovered by the time the season kicks off in late August. The question shouldn’t be how he looks physically after the injury. The real question is how he fits into the secondary now that he has missed a full year that he could have used to solidify his spot in the rotation.

Now Brown has competition. The only two players who are truly locked into the defensive backfield are Sevyn Banks and Josh Proctor. That leaves two or three other spots open for defensive backs. Brown is looking to snap up one of those spots.

Brown has the talent to do it. He has good size and seems like he trusts his technique enough to get into a good position. I think he just needs an opportunity to really show what he can do on the football field now that he will finally be fully healthy.

Brown should be in the running for the corner position opposite of Banks. It will come down to him, Marcus Williamson, and freshmen Denzel Burke and Lejond Cavasos. Those four guys are fighting for potentially two spots in the secondary. It’s not going to be easy.

Right now, I would give Brown the edge. He has the experience over Burke and Cavasos, and Williamson was really bad in 2020. I would think Brown has the highest ceiling of any of these players. The only player I’d be shocked to see play a lot is Williamson.
