Ohio State football: Why QB’s flock to Ryan Day
By Ryan Stano
The head coach of the Ohio State football program has a knack for recruiting quarterbacks. Why do they all flock to get coaching from him?
Ryan Day has been the head coach of the Ohio State football program for two full years now. The 2021 season will be his third season on board. Even before he was the head man though, he was able to recruit highly talented offensive players. Mainly quarterbacks.
Since Day has been a part of the Ohio State football program, he has played a part in landing some of the biggest quarterback prospects in the country. He helped land C.J. Stroud, Jack Miller, and Kyle McCord, all are fighting for the starting quarterback job this Fall.
All of those players are at least four-star prospects as well. McCord was a five-star and was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania. Not only did Day land those three, but he was the main reason why Justin Fields transferred to Ohio State in 2019.
Fields is perhaps the most talented QB to ever play for the Buckeyes. He was a Heisman finalist and led Ohio State to the National Championship Game and two CFP appearances. That’s one heck of a player to bring into a program, and he’s not even the best prospect Day has landed.
Quinn Ewers would be the best prospect that Ohio State has ever signed. Not just at quarterback, but any position anywhere on the field. Ewers came to Ohio State because he wanted to play for Ryan Day. Why do all of these quarterbacks want to play for Day?
The reason is because of how he develops them. He helped Dwayne Haskins be a first-round pick when he was still offensive coordinator. He helped Fields be a first-round pick this past Spring. Day has the experience and coaching knowledge to make these players better and have long NFL careers.
The amount of quarterback talent Day is able to bring in is staggering. He’s not slowing down anytime soon either.
