The Ohio State football program has landed the number one recruit in the country according to 247Sports in J.T. Tuimoloau.

We knew it was coming. We’d heard rumors and felt good about it all week. But now it’s official: J.T. Tuimoloau will be playing for the Ohio State football program this Fall. The Buckeyes have landed the number one overall recruit in the class of 2021 according to 247Sports.

The Buckeyes made a very strong push for Tuimoloau when he visited in mid-June. He was super impressed with everything that the coaching staff did and really likes Larry Johnson as a defensive line coach. His presence at Ohio State might be the single biggest reason the Buckeyes were able to land him.

Tuimoloau will now pair with Jack Sawyer, another five-star defensive end recruit, for the next three years. Tuimoloau and Sawyer will be forces of nature for the Buckeyes right away. Add Zach Harrison to the mix this season, and they have some truly fearsome pass rushers.

Ryan Day has done a truly immaculate job of recruiting since he took over as the head coach. This gives Ohio State the second-best recruiting class for 2021 just ever so slightly behind Alabama. That’s the program that they are chasing and adding someone of this caliber helps them even more.

Ultimately, the allure of the number of pros that Ohio State has put forth was just too much to ignore for Tuimoloau. Oregon may have had the geographic advantage to be closer to his family, but Day and Johnson were just too much for the Ducks to compete with.
