Ohio State football gets first commit of June
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has landed its first prospect in the month of June ahead of many more prospect visits.
The Ohio State football program has been killing it on the recruiting trail for the last two years. Now they are keeping that momentum going by hosting over 100 prospects this month alone. In doing so, they have their first commit of the busiest month in recruiting history.
Ryan Day has landed Kaleb Brown, a four-star wide receiver in the class of 2022. Brown will now be the third receiver that the Buckeyes have in that class. Brown is a 5’11 177-pound prospect from Chicago. He had offers from other big programs such as Alabama and Michigan.
Brown has the size to be the prototypical slot receiver. He is fast enough to make plays in that position as well. He isn’t afraid to go over the middle and run those slant routes or deep posts over the safties. Brown also has a fast burst that helps him get enough separation to get open.
It’s always great to grab a highly-touted prospect. It’s even better to yank a prospect away from Nick Saban. What’s golden is taking one away from TTUN. Jim Harbaugh clearly couldn’t do enough to beat Brian Hartline and Day to land Brown as a commit.
This does make the wide receiver room plenty crowded for the 2022 class. The Buckeyes will be losing two receivers next season in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, and that’s in addition to Jameson Williams transferring to Alabama so that does open some room.
Taking Brown likely means that there won’t be another receiver committing in this class. I would be very surprised to see Hartline fill the room anymore. Now it’s time for them to look at other positions of need to fill for this class instead.
This may have been the first commit to happen this month, but it certainly won’t be the last. Stay tuned for more!
