Ohio State football: Why the running back room is in a good place
By Ryan Stano
It’s always good to have depth on your roster. That’s especially true at a position like running back. The Ohio State football team’s depth there puts them in a great spot.
The running back position has always been a position that the Ohio State football program has needed to use a lot. They have been one of the best running programs in America. A big reason why that has been the case is that they’ve had one really good back who kills it.
That could still end up being the case in 2021, but it is most likely going to be like 2020. That means that there will be multiple backs that get a good amount of carries to spread the wealth around. It won’t just be Master Teague back there. It will be a host of others too.
TreyVeon Henderson very well could end up taking over the starting job at some point this season. In fact, I expect him to. But that doesn’t mean Teague will be out of luck. He will still be counted on for a lot of carries in some big games. Both backs will.
Quite frankly, I expect both backs to have good years. Teague is used to sharing time because he did so last year with Trey Sermon. The difference is that now he should be fully healthy heading into the season and should be a lot better early in the year.
The running back room has about as much depth as I can remember it having. Even though a lot of the backs in that room don’t have a ton of experience, they are very talented. Henderson is one of the most talented backs I have seen in a long time. He is going to be the next great back at OSU.
This depth will come in handy all season long because one guy won’t get worn out. I can’t wait to watch this team run the ball
