Ohio State football: OSU should be able to withstand injuries
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a deep enough squad that they should be able to withstand injuries at plenty of positions in 2021.
Injuries are a part of the game. The Ohio State football program knows that after having dealt with prominent players being injured in the past. Nick Bosa got hurt early in the 2018 season and he ended up missing the rest of the season. Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett both got hurt significantly too.
If injuries were to hit this Ohio State football team though, they should be able to withstand it. They have enough depth across their roster that they should be able to keep it rolling. This is one of the deepest teams that the Buckeyes have had in years, especially at the most important positions.
They have three solid quarterbacks who are still fighting for the starting job. If the starter were to get hurt, the backup would be able to step in and be more than capable. The same thing goes for the running back position and any of the wide receivers.
All positions on the Ohio State football team should be covered by injuries.
The same can be said on the defensive side of the ball as well. We talked about how good the defensive line rotation is already. The linebackers are all unknown, so an injury there won’t kill them. Perhaps the only place where an injury might hurt is at safety.
If Josh Proctor were to get hurt, they would have no experience at that position. They would be stuck either playing Marcus Hooker, assuming he’s still on the team, or someone like Lejond Cavasos or Lathom Ransom. Neither of those guys has significant playing time.
Hopefully, this team won’t have any injuries to deal with at any point. But if they do, the Buckeyes have enough depth across the roster to keep the train rolling. They should still be as formidable of a team as there is in the country.
