Does the Ohio State football need help from transfers?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has lost some players in the transfer portal recently. Do they need help from the portal to improve their roster before the season starts?
Transfers are a big part of college football today. The transfer portal has brought in a whole new world of player movement. That world has affected the Ohio State football program this year as they have had two players leave the program through the portal.
They were hoping to gain a linebacker in the transfer portal, Henry To’o To’o from Tennessee, but instead lost him to Alabama. He would have been a nice addition to a linebacker room that has virtually no experience. But does Ohio State even need transfers to come in this season?
The Buckeyes have had some of the best recruiting classes in the country in the last few years. When you recruit at such a high level, you should be able to replace players when you lose them to the NFL Draft. That’s especially true at a program like Ohio State, which loses quality players every year.
Ryan Day seems confident that the Buckeyes will be able to replace those who left the program with players that are already on the roster. He is confident in the roster he has built through recruiting in the last few years. That means there should be very little hope that transfers will come in before Fall.
That doesn’t mean that it absolutely won’t happen. The Buckeyes could still use some linebacker and secondary depth. Getting someone with experience through the transfer portal would certainly not be a bad thing if the right player was brought in.
Don’t fret if the transfer portal isn’t utilized by Day’s staff before the season starts. The roster is still plenty good enough for the team to make another run at a national title.
