Ohio State football loses out on Henry To’o To’o
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program was once considered the favorite to land the transfer from Tennessee. Instead, he transfers to rival Alabama.
The Ohio State football team has had more players transferring out of the program recently than they have coming in. They were hopeful to gain linebacker Henry To’o To’o within the transfer portal to gain some experience in a linebacker room that is severely lacking some.
Instead, To’o To’o has decided to stay in the SEC and is headed to Alabama. This is the second time in a few days in which Nick Saban has stolen a player from the Buckeyes, also gaining Jameson Williams from a crowded Ohio State wide receiver room.
Missing out on the linebacker from Tennessee certainly hurts a little bit. Had he come to Columbus, he would have been the only linebacker with any starting experience. He would have been able to make Kerry Coombs’ job a little bit easier.
Just because the Buckeyes weren’t able to get him doesn’t mean that the linebackers are in complete disarray. They still have plenty of talent there, they are just unproven. Dallas Gant, Craig Young, and Teradja Mitchell all ooze talent, they just haven’t gotten on the field yet.
The happiest person in all of this has to be Mitchell. Mitchell has gotten passed up the last few years for playing time by other linebackers. Now, he has a real chance to fight for playing time. He even has a chance to start if he has a good Fall camp.
It definitely would have been nice to add someone like To’o To’o to the roster, but Ryan Day’s squad isn’t lacking for talent. That group of linebackers will be just fine. No one should panic about this not happening.
