We already made the case why the Jets should take Justin Fields. Now we make the case why he should go third overall to the 49ers.

San Francisco has the third overall pick in the draft. There’s no guarantee that they are going to draft a quarterback. They did just make the Super Bowl two years ago with Jimmy Garoppolo. Yet, it seems that the 49ers will be making a switch at that position.

If they were smart, they would grab Justin Fields with that third overall pick. They already have a former Ohio State football player on their roster in Nick Bosa, and he did pretty well for them in 2019 as a rookie. Why not take another highly talented player from the same school?

The 49ers need a quarterback who can reliably stay on the field and be available to them. Garoppolo hasn’t been able to do that for them, which is part of the reason why they are looking for someone else. Fields would give them that steady, reliable presence.

Fields never missed a game as a starter. He played in every game at Ohio State, even while getting beat up a couple of times. He only came out for a few plays against Michigan in 2019 when he hurt his knee and then threw a touchdown the very next play. Same thing with his rib injury against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

It’s harder to find a tougher player than Fields. He plays through all kinds of injuries. He would fight for his 49ers teammates. Fields is also much more skilled than Garroppolo and the other quarterbacks in this draft not named Trevor Lawrence.

Fields throws the deep ball at a high level. That’s something that was lacking in San Francisco the last few years. Fields also can make plays with his legs at an elite level. He is perhaps the fastest quarterback in the Draft. Kyle Shannahan loves to have mobile quarterbacks who can get outside the pocket. Fields can certainly do that.

Justin Fields would be a great fit in San Francisco. They would be extremely lucky to get a player of the caliber of Fields.
