Ohio State football can learn from basketball team
By Ryan Stano
With the way the Ohio State basketball team has played, the Ohio State football team could certainly learn a thing or two about mental strength from Chris Holtmann’s squad.
The Ohio State football team is back doing workouts in small groups after they had to pause due to COVID. This is certainly good news. Besides getting the necessary physical work in right now, they also need to start getting mentally prepared for next season.
Ryan Day’s team can learn a thing or two about mental toughness from Chris Holtmann’s team. The basketball team is now playing for a Big Ten Title after three tough games. In those games, the team blew big second-half leads and still came out on top.
The Ohio State football team can look at that and use that to help themselves. If they face another tough game as they did in the National Championship, they can draw on what they’ve seen from the basketball team as inspiration on how to handle a tough situation.
Of course, the game against Alabama last year will also be a learning experience for the team. They want to erase the bad taste in their mouth that has been lingering there since January. They know what it feels like to be knocked down. Now they have to show that they will get up again.
The Ohio State football team could find themselves in a dogfight early in the season against Oregon. If that happens, they should remember what the basketball team did several months before. That team hasn’t given up and has been able to get the job done despite adversity.
Football season is still several months away. A lot of things will happen before then, including finding a new quarterback. Until then, we will be watching the Spring workouts to see who emerges as playmakers.
