The Ohio State basketball team ended up not dropping as far in the polls as what was expected and they may have a better shot at a one seed than expected too.

A three-game losing streak is bad no matter when it happens. But for the Ohio State basketball team, their losing streak couldn’t have come at a worse time. They are a team in free fall right now from a Buckeye fan’s perspective, but apparently not from a national perspective.

Ohio State only dropped three spots in the AP Poll down to 7th despite losing these three games in a row. Maybe the pollsters are aware that the referees are why they lost one of those games. I guess two losses against the now second (Michigan) and fifth (Iowa) teams aren’t that bad of losses.

With them being ranked so highly still, they might have a better shot at a one seed than I thought. They play Illinois in their final game of the season on Sunday, and they are now ranked fourth. A win over them would certainly help their case, as would a good run in the Big Ten Tournament.

Getting a one seed might come down to getting further in the Big Ten Tournament than these top-ranked teams. Michigan will probably get a one seed regardless of how they do in their final games. Ohio State needs to get further than Illinois and Iowa though.

The final one seed very well could come down to one of those three teams, so this final game for the Buckeyes is extremely critical. Whoever wins that game has the upper hand going into the Big Ten Tourney. Ohio State needs to win more games, otherwise they’re going to be a two seed.
