Ohio State football: Is TTUN getting themselves together?
By Ryan Stano
It’s been nine years since TTUN beat Ohio State football. Their program has been sputtering for a long time. Are they finally getting themselves together?
The Ohio State football program has owned the rivalry with TTUN. They have been punishing them on the field for a long time. This year doesn’t look to be any different in that regard. While Ohio State is at the top of the mountain, TTUN is actually showing some signs of life.
For the first time under Jim Harbaugh, they have a five-star quarterback in J.J. McCarthy out of the IMG Academy in Florida. They had the 10th best recruiting class in the 2021 class. It looks like they may also get a great player for the class of 2022 as well.
William Jackson will choose tomorrow where he will be going to school. His final three are Ohio State, Michigan, and USC. It looks like the five-star cornerback will be choosing to head to Michigan as of now, but there could be a surprise tomorrow. You never know.
If TTUN does land Jackson, it could be a sign that they might finally be turning a corner. What that corner leads to is unclear. They are still nowhere near the caliber of a program as the Ohio State football program, so they won’t be winning the Big Ten anytime soon.
There is no clear second team in the Big Ten East though. Both Michigan and Penn State were terrible last year, so IU was able to slide into that spot as the second-best team in the division. They are a team that is definitely getting better under Tom Allen.
That should be TTUN’s goal; to beat IU to be the second-best team in the division. With McCarthy and the other members of their recruiting class, they are slowly getting better. At least on paper they are. Harbaugh has yet to show the ability to develop these prospects into actual good players while at Michigan.
Even if TTUN is getting (finally) better, they are nowhere near Ohio State. Fans don’t need to worry right now.
