The Ohio State football program has a chance to land a five-star cornerback for 2022. Better yet, they can steal him from TTUN.

We already know just how good the Ohio State football program’s recruiting class is for 2022 so far. It’s the best in the country. We know it can get even better. Grabbing five-star cornerback Will Johnson would be one way to increase that ranking even higher.

Johnson is a kid out of Detroit that has narrowed his list down to three schools: Ohio State, Michigan, and USC. USC is an afterthought at this point. It really comes down to Ohio State and Michigan for the Detroit native. He is an extremely skilled player.

Johnson has really good size for a corner at 6’3 190. That size allows him to defend taller receivers effectively. He has really good technique and really smothers receivers and doesn’t allow them to get much space. His ball skills are adequate but not great. That can be improved upon.

It would be devastating for Michigan to lose this kid to Ohio State. To have someone in their own backyard choose their rival instead would be a big blow to them. It would also signal to the fanbase that Michigan really has no logical way to keep up with Ohio State in recruiting. If you can’t land a big-time guy from right next door, who can you land?

Johnson is crystal-balled to Michigan, so they still have some hope. He has indicated that he will make his announcement on February 28th, so we will know where he wants to go by the end of the month. We will see what he decides to do.
