Former Ohio State football Head Coach Urban Meyer has been hired as the next Head Coach of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. Former Ohio State players took to Twitter to congratulate Urban on his new gig.

Urban Meyer will be remembered as one of the greatest college football coaches of all-time. His head coaching career began with Bowling Green, where he went 17-6 in two seasons with the Falcons.

Next up was Utah, where he spent two years and went 22-2 with two bowl wins, including a BCS victory in the Fiesta Bowl.

Florida was the next stop, where he spent six seasons and posted a record of 65-15, and won two National Championships with the help of former Heisman winning QB Tim Tebow.

After taking a season off due to health concerns, Urban came back to his home state of Ohio to take over as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He started his OSU career with a perfect 2012 season, a season in which the Buckeyes were ineligible for postseason play due to five players receiving improper benefits in 2011.

In fact, the Buckeyes would start 24-0 under Meyer, his first loss came to Michigan State in the 2013 Big Ten Championship game, which would cost OSU a trip to the National Championship.

That would soon be forgotten, as in 2014 Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes went on to win the Big Ten Championship by beating Wisconsin, 59-0, with back-up QB Cardale Jones. Ohio State made the inaugural College Football Playoff as a four-seed and defeated number one Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, and then won the National Championship Game over Oregon. The Buckeyes were National Champions for the first time since 2002.

Urban would stay on the Ohio State sidelines for a total of seven years and posted an impressive 83-9 record. His final game was a win over Washington in the 2019 Rose Bowl. After the game, he told reporters “I don’t believe I will coach again.”

He will coach again, however. He was announced as Head Coach of the Jaguars on January 14, and former Ohio State players took to Twitter to offer their support and excitement for their former head coach.

We wish Coach Meyer nothing but the best for his future endeavor. Hopefully, his health won’t force him to retire from this job too.
