As the Ohio State football team enters the offseason, former head coach Urban Meyer is set to take on the NFL in Jacksonville.

The Ohio State football team may be losing a key resource as former head coach Urban Meyer is set to take the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position in the NFL, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

As this continues to come to fruition, many pundits are skeptical about whether or not Meyer would be a successful head coach at the NFL level. I’m here to say that he would.

At every stop he has been, Meyer has shaken the culture and made it his own. He turned Bowling Green from losers to tops in the MAC in two short seasons, doing the same at Utah as the Utes’ program has been strong ever since he left in 2005. He also won two national titles in five seasons at Florida. Finally, seven extremely successful seasons at Ohio State with a national title and 7-0 record vs Michigan.

This man is a program builder who will come in from day one and demand respect immediately. He will weed out those who don’t buy in as he did in 2012 at Ohio State. He will intentionally and with purpose, impose his will on the Jaguars to demand their best.

Meyer will also build a world-class coaching staff. He knows many NFL people as well as great college coaches, some from Ohio State that he may bring with him.

Some think that he’s a college coach unwilling to change his ways for the NFL. That is completely false. A prime example of this is that Meyer changed his stapled RPO offense in 2017 by bringing in Ryan Day to lead his offense with an emphasis on the quarterback getting the ball down the field. Meyer was willing to adapt then, and he will adapt now.

This sets up to be a great hire for Jacksonville. He has a home in Florida, has Florida roots, and Meyer wants to win and win quickly. The health concerns are still there but if he can give four or five seasons, that may be all he needs to turn this program into a champion. Especially with the No. 1 overall draft pick coming up.

Next. Which Draft-eligible players could return in 2021?. dark

This will be one heck of a ride and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
