Ohio State Football: Three keys to win National Championship
Justin Fields will need an encore of his elite decision making from the Sugar Bowl.
Fields put forth a performance that will live forever in Ohio State football and College Football Playoff lore. He threw for six touchdowns and exercised a high level of trust in the offense. He didn’t try to play Superman-like in other games.
He took what the defense gave him while also creating some plays of his own. Fields utilized the check down option multiple times for positive yardage. But most importantly, he took an absolute blast on a third and 13 a few minutes before the end of the first half.
Grimacing in obvious pain, Fields missed just one down. In his return, he rolled to his right and fired a wobbly strike to the front right corner of the end zone to Chris Olave for a touchdown to extend the lead.
Fields seems to be relatively healthy for tonight’s game, although he won’t be 100%. He probably won’t run the ball as much as he normally does so he can protect those ribs. His play will be monumental in the Buckeyes’ efforts to win tonight.
His performance was one of the gutsiest in the history of the sport. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes will need another elite outing from Fields tonight. If he plays like he did on New Year’s Day, there’s a good chance Ohio State is hoisting the trophy when the confetti falls.
