The Ohio State football teams’ most important player will be good to go against Clemson for the right to play for a National Championship.

Justin Fields did not have his best game in the Big Ten Championship. In fact, the Ohio State football team as a whole did not play its best. Part of the reason for that was their inability to throw the ball effectively. Part of the reason that didn’t happen was that Fields sprained his thumb.

According to Fields, that thumb will be good to go for the Sugar Bowl. You could tell that he was in some pain and discomfort towards the end of the Big Ten title game. You could also tell that it was bothering him more than he was letting on, and probably will affect him a bit against Clemson.

Fields won’t let his thumb keep him from going out and competing as hard as he can. He gets his top receiver back in Chris Olave, so that should help. Even if the thumb is bothering him more than he is letting on, his legs are still a dangerous weapon that can be used.

This game shouldn’t be on Fields’ shoulders even if the thumb wasn’t an issue. The best way for the Buckeyes to win is to have balance and rely on a strong running game. Fields shouldn’t have to sling it for 400 yards for Ohio State to win this game.

If the Buckeyes are able to win on Friday, Fields will have 11 days to heal up his thumb before the National Championship. Of course, the Buckeyes aren’t getting ahead of themselves. This game is what matters and it is not going to be an easy victory.

Fields may not have to carry this football team, but he still has to be very good for them to win. I would expect him to rise to the occasion and put to bed any concerns of him not playing well against good competition.
