Ohio State football: The best way to beat Clemson
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team gets their chance at revenge in just five short days. Here is the best way for the Buckeyes to beat Clemson and move on to the National Championship.
The Ohio State football team gets a chance to get revenge for last year’s travesty against Clemson in just five days. It’s a game that the team has wanted all year long, whether or not they will tell you that. This is the matchup they’ve wanted for a whole year now.
Even with all of that emotion factoring into this game, the winner will have to be the team that executes their gameplan the most. Ryan Day had the worst coaching performance of his career in the Big Ten Championship Game. I expect him to have a bounceback effort.
If he has a good day of coaching like he normally does, then he will have a heavy dose of running the football. The Buckeyes showed against Northwestern that they can move the line of scrimmage well against a good defensive front. Clemson’s front is really good like Northwestern’s.
Trey Sermon should carry the ball at least 20-25 times on New Year’s Day. Sermon should be the featured back in this game after having a historic performance against the Wildcats. It would also take pressure off of Justin Fields and allow him to not feel like he has to do too much.
Chris Olave should be back in this game after missing the Big Ten Championship with COVID. Running the ball allows him to be more open in the play-action passing game. That will be the ultimate key to beating Clemson. Balance is the best way to beat this team.
Fields has been waiting for this game all year long. So has Olave. So has the rest of the Ohio State football team. Now it’s time for them to execute and bring home a win.
