Ohio State football: Bucks land 4-star tight end in 2022
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State continues to eviscerate their opponents on the recruiting trail. They just added a second tight end to the 2022 class.
Recruiting has been a strong point for Ohio State ever since Urban Meyer took over the program in 2012. It has gotten even stronger now that Ryan Day is the head coach. His 2020 class was in the top 10. His 2021 class might end up being number 1. It’s his 2022 class though that is getting a lot of attention.
The Buckeyes added another recruit to the 2022 class, adding 4-star tight end Benji Gosnell. Gosnell is out of North Carolina and is the 11th best tight end in the country. He is now the 7th commitment for Ohio State in the class of 2022.
While most of the chatter has been about other 2022 prospects, the Buckeyes are going to love this kid. Gosnell is 6’4 and 225 pounds, which is a good size for a tight end. Looking at his highlight film, he is someone with a lot of versatility to be used in a Ryan Day offense.
Gosnell has pretty good hands and uses his size well on defenders. He should be a good red-zone target for the Buckeyes. What makes him more valuable though is his size for his blocking. He could be a good player to block in running plays on the edge.
What is very apparent is that he is raw. He runs basic routes in high school because he can. Under college coaching though, he can get more refined route-running. He would be even more dangerous as a pass-catcher. Day has shown this year that he likes tight ends near the end zone.
The Buckeyes continue to do a fantastic job of identifying talent and getting that talent to want to come to Columbus. This is just the beginning of some 2022 commits coming in. This class will be in the double digits before you know it.
