Last night, the #1 QB and #2 player overall in the 2022 Class, Quinn Ewers, de-committed from Tom Herman’s Texas Longhorns. And all the indications since then seem to be that he’s going to flip to Ohio State.

For those of you that don’t know this guy yet, he’s a huge deal. Last season as a sophomore for Southlake Carroll High School in Texas, he threw for 4,000+ yards and 54 touchdowns and grabbed the 2019 MaxPreps Sophomore of the Year in doing so.

He’s already donning a 0.997 composite rating on 247sports.com, which would make him the highest-ranked recruit Ohio State would land since Terrelle Pryor in 2008, who was a 0.997 as well. For reference, the only two QB’s ranked higher than that since then has been Trevor Lawrence (0.999), and current Buckeye Justin Fields was a 0.998 when he committed to Georgia. Being that Ewers is only a Junior, he still has a chance to bump that rating even higher.

Earlier this week, the first rumors started to swirl on Texas football message boards that Ewers may be reconsidering his Texas commitment. If you’re unaware of message boards, let me describe them like this: they’re the internet’s version of every small town’s locally-owned diner, where everyone from retirees, boosters, player’s parents, and anyone associated with their school’s football program gathers to sip their coffee and deliver their daily hot takes regarding their program.

The tone of the message boards is always a direct representation of the state of their school’s football team. If they’re struggling, you can’t scroll down one time without seeing someone calling for the coach to be fired.

If they’re exceeding expectations, you can’t scroll down without someone claiming they’ll be taking over Saban and Dabo’s dynasty’s in no time. It goes without saying, you always have to take the rumors you see on message boards with a grain of salt.

I digress but fast forward two days from when those original rumors started spreading around, and it’s looking like these may hold some weight as Ewers has now received six Crystal Ball predictions from 247sports recruiting experts that he’s going to join the Buckeyes. Six of those predictions usually means it’s very close to being a done deal.

Given the social media chatter and enthusiasm from all the current and other soon-to-be 2022 Buckeye recruits, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ewers committed by the end of the week. On top of that, there were several other Crystal Ball predictions handed out for Buckeye prospects, including #1 CB/#3 overall Domani Jackson, #1 WR/#10 overall Caleb Burton.

Perhaps even more certain than a Crystal Ball prediction is when it comes straight from the horse’s mouth.  #3 CB/#7 overall Will Johnson, the aforementioned Jackson, and #2 OT/#27 overall Zach Rice all have “@ohiostatefb” in their bios on Instagram as well.

If all of these guys end up solid OSU commits come signing day, the 2022 class would without a doubt have a higher overall rating than the Buckeye’s (eventual) #1 2021 recruiting class. And for anyone not named Ohio State, they should just hope we never get a vaccine for COVID-19 because that’s the only shot (literally) they have at preventing Ryan Day’s inevitable dominance on college football as a whole.
