The slow middle portion of the year begins

Rutgers

Rutgers has been the butt of Big Ten jokes for years, and that has continued even when the teams aren’t playing. The Scarlet Knights might make some improvements this year and be able to take a step forward in the next few years under Greg Schiano. The problem for Rutgers is that there is no way that jump happens this year.

Ohio State will likely be resting their starters early in this ballgame and seeing how the backups are able to perform. A blowout like this will not help Justin Fields to put up big numbers all game long, but he should be able to put together a great half to pad his stats.

@ Maryland

Maryland has posed an issue for some teams over the last few years, but they have been trending down ever since they pushed Ohio State to the brink in 2018. This should be another game where The Buckeyes are able to see what they have in their young players.

Justin Fields should again have roughly one half to be able to shine and show the world that he is the best player in college football, before handing the ball over to the second string. The only reason that Fields might see the field more during these lopsided games is due to the shortened offseason. If Ryan Day feels that his team needs to get some more reps in before taking on stronger teams, he may allow the first team to stay out for three quarters before calling it.
