Ohio State has taken care of IU every time they have played them for the last 30 years. But current IU quarterback Michael Penix Jr. thinks that’s going to change in 2020.

A lot of weird stuff has happened in 2020. We have had a global pandemic, wildfires on various continents, and the sports world came to a halt for 3 full months. Anything can happen right? That’s the attitude IU quarterback Michael Penix Jr. seems to have about this year.

According to him, IU is going to beat Ohio State. When asked about playing Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan, he responded, “I feel like we’re going to shock the world. I know we are.” This is according to Jon Blau of the Bloomington Herald Times.

It seems to be a really bad idea to talk smack to Ohio State or Ryan Day. Michigan tried that earlier this year and we know how Day responded. IU isn’t nearly the program Michigan is. I would reign those comments in if I were Penix Jr.

The kid doesn’t lack for confidence. I’ll give him that. But his team doesn’t have close to the amount of talent the Buckeyes do. Not only do you not have the talent necessary to win, but you give Ohio State bulletin board material? Does that seem like a good idea for anyone to do?

The Hoosiers will travel to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes on November 21st. I would expect Day to pour on the scoring that day. He doesn’t seem like a man who appreciates smack talk towards his team. They might win that game by five or six touchdowns.

It’s always good to have confidence in your team, but Penix needs to know who he’s talking about and be realistic. Ohio State will just have to teach him a lesson.
