The former Ohio State head coach didn’t mince words when it came to him coaching against his former rival.

Ohio State has absolutely dominated TTUN over the last few years. They haven’t lost in the rivalry since the 2011 Fickell year. Before that, it hadn’t been since 2003. No one understands how important that game is more than former Buckeye coach Urban Meyer.

Meyer never lost to TTUN. In fact, the last two seasons he coached the team, The Game wasn’t even close. He loved beating that team and he didn’t shy away from that fact. He let it known just how much he loved beating them in an interview on the Dan Patrick Show.

Patrick asked Meyer if he felt bad running up the score against TTUN. He responded, “This is going to create a lot of headlines, but no.” It was that simple. He didn’t care about how Harbaugh felt on the other sideline. All he wanted to do was pour it on.

In fact, Patrick asked him if he ever reigned his players back in once the games got out of hand, especially back in 2018. “How do I answer this politically correct? Our players work that game every year, you get a chance to go to the playoff, I’m not going to tell them to slow down.”

Meyer loved sticking it to TTUN so much that he wanted to keep scoring on them. I love it so much. I guess I know where Ryan Day gets it from. If you want to watch the full 49-second clip from the show, check it out below.

It’s great to see a head coach be honest with his feelings towards a particular team. Meyer always made it known that The Game is the most important game every single year. That’s part of the reason he went 7-0 against TTUN.

I hope Day keeps the same mentality for the next 20 years.
