Ohio State football: How 2020 will affect 6 top players’ draft stock
By Ryan Stano
Fields had an immaculate first season in Columbus, throwing for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He did all of that while only playing in the first half of most of the games last season because the Buckeyes were blowing out their opponent.
The biggest reason Fields wanted to return to Ohio State for another year is to erase the sting of having his last pass a year ago intercepted in the end zone. He doesn’t want that to be the last pass he throws in college. He also thinks this team is good enough to win it all.
If he does in fact lead Ohio State to a national championship in 2020, it could propel him all the way to the number one pick in next year’s draft. Right now he is behind Trevor Lawrence as the top quarterback by most draft sites. A big 2020 would change that.
A bad 2020 season wouldn’t hurt Fields too much. Even if the worst-case scenario hit and he got hurt, he would still likely be a first-round pick. Fields is that talented. He has excellent arm strength, great field vision, and can use his legs effectively.
Fields would be an excellent franchise quarterback for whatever team decides to take him a year from now. Right now, he is guaranteed to be no worse than the third quarterback taken. A big year could make him the most money of anyone in the draft class.
Next, we look at Wade, who also was very outspoken about wanting to play this season.
