Because of a lack of action from the Big Ten, the first Buckeye has decided to opt out of the season and declare for the NFL Draft.

Ohio State had a chance to win a national championship this season. They had all the pieces in place on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. They were robbed of that chance because of the ineptitude of the Big Ten presidents and Kevin Warren.

Now the first casualty of the lost season has hit the Buckeyes. According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, unanimous All-American guard Wyatt Davis has decided to opt out of the 2020 season and prepare for the NFL Draft. Davis is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Davis already has signed with an agent, so he can’t change his mind now. It’s terrible that the inaction of the Big Ten to have a re-vote has forced Davis to make this decision. He really wanted to play this season and believed that this team could have won it all.

This could be the start of a lot of Buckeyes doing the same. This might be an indication that the league will never re-vote, or that they won’t have enough votes to change the decision. Neither is good news for Ohio State fans who have held out hope that they might still play this Fall.

With each passing day, the Big Ten looks more and more stupid for their handling of the 2020 football season. This mishap will define the league for generations to come and will forever be a stain on the legacy of the conference.

Based on this, I would expect Justin Fields, Chris Olave, Shaun Wade, Josh Myers, and others to opt out soon as well. They are all projected to be first-rounders come April so they truly have nothing to play for now.
