The Ohio State men’s basketball program might not be playing any games in the near future following the Big Ten’s decision to cancel all fall sports, but the recruiting process never slows down. Chris Holtmann has been trying to improve the 2022 recruiting class, and D’Ante Davis is certainly a player that could help the Buckeyes.

Davis, who is heading into his junior year at Lawrence Central High School, is a 6’6 small forward out of Indianapolis. He currently has scholarship offers from Butler, Indiana, Louisville, Nebraska, Purdue, and Xavier, and it seems likely that Ohio State will be added to the list in the coming months.

“Those offers that I have kept me motivated and showed me that I am blessed to have the opportunity that I have. Those offers have pushed me,” Davis explained. “The recruiting process has been great and very enjoyable. It’s given me the option to be able to look at a variety of different schools.”

According to 247 Sports, Davis is the #3 ranked player in Indiana, and the #111 ranked player in the nation in the class of 2022. The 6’6 forward is a very good scorer, especially from the wing, and he can finish at the rim with both hands, as well as make the right read in the pick-and-roll. He has also recently improved his playmaking ability.

Davis later discussed his unofficial visit to Columbus to check out Ohio State’s campus: “I loved my unofficial visit when I went to Ohio State, the coaching staff is awesome. They have been showing interest for a while. Coach Holtmann is great, love his personality. The Big Ten has always been a great conference.”

As it stands right now, Bowen Hardman is currently Ohio State’s only commitment in the 2022 recruiting cycle but Davis would be a great addition to the class. Hardman is the #5 ranked player in the state of Ohio. A few other notable 2022 recruits that the Buckeyes offered are Bruce Thornton, Zion Cruz, Josiah Harris, and Shawn Phillips.

Davis also went on to talk about what his hopes are for the upcoming season: “My expectations for this upcoming year is to win a state championship, hopefully go undefeated. I personally want to accomplish many personal goals that I have of my own. Hopefully we can still have a regular season.”
