Ohio State basketball: Justice Sueing will look to be a difference maker
By Charles Post
The Ohio State men’s basketball team will be tasked with replacing Andre Wesson, Kaleb Wesson, Luther Muhammad, and Alonzo Gaffney next season. One of the leading candidates to take a bulk of the forward minutes is incoming transfer Justice Sueing.
Sueing transferred to Ohio State after averaging 14.3 points per game with California as a sophomore.
He originally committed to the Golden Bears out of Mater Dei High School, turning down scholarship offers from Hawaii, St. Mary’s, and Utah. Sueing averaged 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game as a freshman. He also shot 31.1% from 3-point range. The 6’7 forward improved his game even more as a sophomore.
Sueing increased his production across the board, putting up 14.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 43.2% from the field. He also steadily improved his free throw efficiency, knocking down 78.2% from the line as a sophomore. The forward started getting to the line more as well, shooting 1.3 more free throws per game than the year before.
Following two years at California, Sueing announced his decision to transfer to Ohio State on May 10, 2019, via Twitter.
He had to sit out the 2019-20 campaign but will look to make a major impact in the upcoming season. The Buckeyes will add Sueing and two other transfers, Seth Towns from Harvard and Abel Porter from Utah State.
Other players that should be in the rotation are C.J. Walker, Duane Washington, Eugene Brown, E.J. Liddell, Kyle Young, Zed Key, and Ibrahima Diallo. Chris Holtmann has a lot of talented players, including Sueing, that will try to push the Buckeyes into Big Ten contention with the likes of Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.
