Ohio State football: Any chance at Fall season has to happen now
By Ryan Stano
If Ohio State and some other Big Ten programs are going to play a Fall schedule in 2020, they need to finalize it very soon.
Ohio State has been fighting tooth and nail to play football this Fall. So far, it hasn’t worked. As we know, the Big Ten canceled all Fall sports and has said they are not going to revisit that decision. There have been some rumors about teams doing their own thing though.
If those teams are in fact going to play, they need to finalize a schedule very soon. Normally, teams would be deep in Fall camp right now. The season would typically be right around the corner and starting in a couple of weeks. Obviously that wouldn’t be possible now.
The best bet for something to get done would be to start the season in late September. But doing that would require teams to get a schedule done now so players can get back into their facilities to train and practice. There’s not going to be enough time to do that if they keep putting it off.
Again, there are only rumors of a six-team round-robin happening. There is nothing definitive at all. I would be very surprised if something were to happen at all based on the talk that has come out of the rest of the Big Ten. No one wants to talk about this at all.
The lack of talk from university presidents is part of where the frustration of the fanbase is stemming from. Their silence has left Kevin Warren on an island to fend for himself and that hasn’t gone very well. It would be nice to hear from someone higher up about something.
My guess is that if something is going to happen this Fall, there will be an announcement about it no later than Monday.
